Bringing laurels to the University and to the region, five girls from Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University’s Hockey Academy, Fatehgarh Sahib have been selected for the Junior Women National Coaching camp being organised under the aegis of Sports Authority of India at Bengaluru. The selected students are Navneet Kaur, Priyanka, Reet, Gagandeep Kaur and Amrinder Kaur.

Heaping praise on the girls for their achievement, Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Sukhdarshan Singh Khehra congratulated the athletes and said that he is hopeful of stupendous performances by the University hockey academy in the future as well. The Vice Chancellor added that students, especially girls should be encouraged to participate in sports for their overall personality development. The Registrar of the University, Dr. Pritpal Singh praised the academy players on their achievement and said that the University is committed to the cause of promoting sports in the region and the selection of these girls in national level training camp testifies this fact.  He told that it is very heartening to see young girls not only taking keen interest in sports but also excelling in it. He added that to tap the hidden potential of sports and athletics in the state the University has constructed a state of the art sports complex.

While giving information about the upcoming training camp, Dr. Somanpreet Singh, Incharge of the Department of Physical Education and Sports Technology said that the training camp will be commencing at SAI Centre, Bengaluru from May 24 to July 3, 2017. He said that these athletes have been selected due to their consistent performance in various International and National tournaments over the past years. He was confident that the girls from the University will not only give their best at the training camp but will also be instrumental in bringing glory to the University and to the nation in the near future.
