Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has been consistent in touching high peaks through its high quality education, research, co-curricular, and extra-co curricular activities.
Guru Ramdas School of Planning (GRDSP), one of the oldest departments in the university, is awarded with “Centre of Urban Planning for Capacity Building” by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.
A grant of Rs. 10 crore for two years will be received by the university to organise research and conduct training programmes. GRDSP competed with about seventy plus Schools of Planning to earn the said Centre after rigorous presentations and defence. It is a known premier institute of Spatial Planning not only in north-west India but in the whole country for its high quality academics at UG and PG levels. Presently, it is imparting education in specialized programmes in Urban and Regional Planning at the UG level, and Urban Planning, Infrastructure Planning, and Transport Planning at the PG level. Its graduates are working at high positions in the public and corporate world. As many as 35 of its graduates have retired or working as Chief Town Planners, apart from a high number for Senior Town Planners, in the Town and Country Planning Departments of different states of India. GNDU’s conducive and inclusive infrastructural environment has been the key to the success of GRDSP to have excelled over the past more than 50 years. The contribution of the department towards the high ranking of GNDU has always been recognized.
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu, while congratulating the faculty of GRDSP, has expressed his deep concern to the consistent rise of the Department over all these years. He said that high quality academics and research has made the department a known institute at the state, national, and international arena.
He added that GNDU is the only multi-specialty State University of Northern Region (Jammu, Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh) to attain such remarkable achievements. He said that all-round efforts have been made in the last seven years or so to put in place state-of-the-art infrastructure to facilitate high quality education and research. He said that these efforts have upscaled various rankings at the national and international level. The quality research has improved the H-index of the University from 64 to 145 with top 10 percent highly cited papers in Scopus, he added. In recent international rankings, GNDU is placed among the top 23% of the universities worldwide in the World Rankings for Best Value Universities for International Students 2024 by the Study Abroad Aide.
Also, the Centre for World University Ranking has ranked GNDU among the top 9.3% universities of the world in 2024. Its NIRF ranking at 48th position makes GNDU a part of the elite club of high quality higher educational institutions in the country. NAAC has accredited GNDU with CGPA of 3.85 on 4 point scale at “A++” grade (highest level) and UGC has conferred it with “University with Potential for Excellence ” status.
The University’s unmatching achievements in sports and cultural events are visible at the national and international arena, which makes GNDU very popular across the geographies. Congratulating the faculty of GRDSP, the Vice Chancellor said that sincere efforts should continue to achieve yet higher landmarks in the country and abroad in the times to come.
