Young Patiala Reads’, the first exclusive book club for young adults in Patiala, held an online meet with national book award winner- Kathryn Erskine. According to the founder of this book club, Bhavya Garg, the group had a very interesting discussion with the American author. The club’s pick of the month, Mockingbird, has been highly acclaimed and also won a lot of awards. It is a moving story about an eleven-year-old girl with Asperger’s syndrome whose older brother dies in a school shooting and the steps she takes to get closure.

“The young readers were fascinated by the author and asked her tons of questions related to the novel and Kathryn’s journey as a writer. The author also shared some really inspiring stories about how she channeled her painful emotions into writing and how she overcame her writer’s block. The meeting ended with Kathryn giving advice and writing tips to the members.”, informed Bhavya.

Erskine has written a total of 9 books till now and her next book, ‘My dad is a DJ’, will be out soon. Her novel ‘Mockingbird’ alone won 15 prestigious awards along with a long list of different state award nominations. The founder of the club believes it was an excellent opportunity for them to interact with such a celebrated personality. The meeting was attended by Avrita Dang, Manasvi Bansal, Avraj Manchanda, Aahana Goel, Aishmeen, Issmat Bakshi and Drishti Goyal.
