IIT Ropar’s Initiative to Foster Environmental Sustainability through Tech-driven Education in Schools with IoT Kits

IIT Ropar‘s iHub-AWaDH, in collaboration with the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM ICPS) under the Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, has organized an event in association with the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, Government of Punjab and supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change. The event focused on a Workshop on Environmental Awareness & Outreach with Environment IoT Kits and Industrial Automation for Sustainability.
IIT Ropar’s iHub-AWaDH has taken significant steps to involve school children in environmental awareness activities and competitions, aiming to deepen their understanding of environmental issues and inspire positive action. The event began with an inauguration ceremony and a keynote address by R.P. Gupta, Principal of PM Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sandhuan Distt. Ropar, along with a team from IIT Ropar. Saurabh Arora, Incubation Manager at AWaDH, introduced AWaDH as a dynamic incubation hub fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. Desh Raj, Firmware Engineer at AWaDH, presented the role of Environment IoT, followed by the installation and demonstration of an Environment IoT kit.
The event also marked the establishment of an Eco Club, which was inaugurated with an inspiring oath ceremony dedicated to protecting the environment. Over 100 students enthusiastically took the pledge to champion environmental awareness and action within their community. The Eco Club, envisioned as a dynamic platform for fostering environmental consciousness, will serve as a hub for educational workshops, tree planting drives, recycling campaigns, and clean-up activities. A debate on “Environment Awareness” followed, along with a prize and certificate distribution ceremony.

Anubhi Khendelwal, Founder of Terafac Technologies Pvt Ltd, conducted a seminar on the pivotal role of Industrial IoT in fostering environmental sustainability within manufacturing operations.
