2.92 crore released for hailstorm hit farmers of Barnala- DC
Deputy Commissioner Barnala said that in order to provide relief to the farmers of Barnala district affected due to hailstorm in the month of March 2017, the district administration has cleared the sum of Rs 2,92,29,289 Rupees as compensation of crops damaged on around 5,400 acres. He added that Rupees 13 lakh have also been transferred in the bank accounts of affected families of 6 farm suicide cases. He added that the bills of compensation cases were pending with the finance department but the same were cleared due to special efforts of administrative officials of Barnala district.
Deputy Commissioner said that the compensation has been released for 2700 acres of Chananwal, Chhiniwal Kalan and Chakkrohi villages of Barnala subdivision and around 2712 acres of Bhotna, Tallewal A&B and Behla Khurd of Tapa subdivision. He informed that the damage by 33 to 50 per cent to crop has been given Rs 5,412 per acre for crop damage. He said that the compensation amount has also been directly transferred in the bank accounts of as many as 752 farmers under direct benefit transfer (DBT) of the government.
DC said that along with the crop damage compensation, an amount of Rs. 13 lakh has also been transferred in the bank account of affected families which were cleared by the government in 6 suicide cases of farmers. He added that Punjab government and district administration Barnala were committed to provide better and transparent governance to the common residents.
