31st  Dasmesh Hawks All India Hockey Festival begins at Rupnagar

31st Dashmesh Hawks All India Hockey Festival, Rupnagar was inaugurated by Jai Krishan Singh Rori,Deputy Speaker,  Punjab Legislative Assembly amid fabulous ceremonies. Dinesh Chadha, MLA Rupnagar was also present on this auspicious occasion. Holy torch was brought from Gurudwara Shri Batha Sahib by ten hockey players of Hawks Club which was received by the Chief Guest & other guests. It will be lit throughout the festival. Punjabi Folk Singers Bhupinder Gill and Jaswant Sandhila entertained the public who gathered to see the Hockey Festival. Bhambri National Gatka Association of India displayed Traditional Gatka Skills to the public. Baloons & white piegons as a sumbol of piece were flown in the air. Different types of  firecrackers were also burst. S.S Saini, General Secretary Hawks Club Rupnagar conveyed that there are 14 teams which will participate in this hockey festival.

Punjab Police,Border Security Force, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, ITBP, EME, Signals, SGPC-Amritsar, Sikh Centre Ramgarh (Jharkhand), Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala, Rock Rovers Chandigarh, Jarkhar Academy, ASC, Central Reserve Police Force Delhi, SAI Kurukshetra are the few teams which will participate in this edition of festival.

Dineah Chadha, MLA Rupnagar thanked all the Hockey lovers who came to witness hockey matches at Hawks Stadium Rupnagar. In a brief address the Chief Guest  Jai Krishan Singh, congratulated the team of Hawks Club for organizing India Level Hockey tournament & completing their 56 Glorious Years. He has also announced financial aid amounting Rs 10.00 Lakh to Hawks Club. Moreover, Jai Krishan Singh announced to provide all support through the Punjab Government to install an Astroturf at this stadium.

First match was played between SGPC VS Bathinda 11.Bathinda 11 started off on an aggressive note & scored in the 5th minute through a brilliant penalty corner goal by Ravneet Singh. SGPC’s Omkar Singh levelled the score through a penalty stroke in the 20th minute. The score at the end of the first half was locked at 1-1. In the second half, SGPC player Omkar Singh scored through a penalty corner in the 38thMinute to make the score 2-1 in favour of SGPC. In the 44thMinute Bathinda XI scored the equalizer though a field goal by Jaswinder Singh in the 44th minute to make the score was 2-2. Parampal Singh of SGPC scored two field goals in dying minutes (57th and 60th minute) to make the score 4-2 in favour of SGPC. SGPC won the match by the margin of 2 goals.

Second match of the inaugural day was played between Romi Club Vs Chandigarh XI. Jaspreet Singh of Romi Club scored in the 2nd minute to make the score 1-0. Chandigarh XI scored the equalizer in the 4th minute through a field goal. Romi Club’s Dilshad Khan scored a field goal in the  27th minute to make the score 2-1.  At the end of the first half the score was 2-1. In the second half Chandigarh XI scored twice in the 56thand 58th minute to make the score 3-2 in their favour. Chandigarh XI won this second match.

Today’s matches were officiated by International Hockey Umpires Amit Sharma,Malkit Singh, Gurpreet Singh & Ashani Kumar. Technical duties were done by  Varinder Singh and Manjinder Singh.

31st Dasmesh Hawks All India Hockey Festival begins at Rupnagar and Punjab Police displayed their pipe band on the opening day of the festival.
