365 mandis closed in Punjab before the end of paddy procurement season

Punjab govt has ordered the closure of 365 mandis/ purchase centres in the state on the pretext that no paddy has arrived in these mandis after November 5,2023.
After procuring the paddy (non-basmati) in Punjab’s grain markets this season, the state government has decided to close down 269 mandis/purchase centres in the Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur , Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazika and Patiala districts. Along with these 269 mandis, 18 SAS Nagar, 29 SBS Nagar, 22 Roopnagar, 27 Fatehgarh Sahib, totaling 365 mandis/ purchase centres are closed from November 9,2023 on the pretext on no paddy arrival in these mandis after November 5,2023.
Normally, all the mandis/purchase centres remains open till the end of the paddy procurement season as this is the practice every year in the state. The paddy procurement season started on October 1,2023 and ends on November 30,2023.
