A Singer Passionately Devoted to Folk Singing  – Anujot Kaur

Blessed are those souls who have the hidden hand of the supreme transcendental lord guiding & guarding them at each step of their existence. Such a soulful personality is Anujot Kaur who not only is an immensely talented singer but is also a spiritual healer, Painter and former Physics teacher taking you on a mystical journey to heal your worries.

Devoted to her life to Sufiyana/Folk/Playback Singing, Anujot had love for music deeply embedded in her genes with her Father Gurcharan Singh being a renowned ‘Ghazal-Go’ of Punjab hailing from village Dhudike in Moga. Brought up in an intellectual & creative environment at home, Anujot started painting from the age of 4 and participated in various exhibitions comprising the prestigious South Asian Fraternity Exhibition in which her marvelous creations of art were displayed amongst artists of 10 countries of South Asia.

Not lagging behind on the academic front too, Anujot proved her mettle by pursuing the Masters In Physics from Panjab University, Chandigarh with B.Ed. from Government College of Education Sector- 20, Chandigarh and M.Ed. Panjab University, Chandigarh and commenced her teaching career in Government sector in 2006 which was to continue unabated for 17 years before chose to resign and devote herself passionately into the realm of music.

It is here that the role of her ever supportive spouse Puneet comes into play. Standing rock solid behind his wife Anujot to give wings to her dreams of pursuing folk singing, Puneet even encouraged her to follow and fulfill the long cherished desires of her heart by bidding adieu to her job. At times, when she felt skeptical about herself, it was her better half who gave her pep talk of confidence which boosted her morale to the unscaled heights.

The singing Diva is equally adept at contemporary Pakistani pop music, Punjabi folk, light classical playbacks with influences from the fusions of Sufi traditional & Western music.

But the core area where she wants to focus and channelize her energies upon is FOLK SINGING as in her own words she wants to stay connected to the roots. It is this genre that gives her the bliss of the highest order which quenches the thirst of her soul for meaningful music.

Anujot has recorded various projects for playback in Punjabi movies , webseries, advertisements and sang a number of times as playback singer in famous plays like Baadshah Darvesh , Hijda, Veerya, Light & Sound show on Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji , Satt Begaane, Maayi Bhaago.

Exhibiting her artistic genius in various sufi mehfils organised by Kala Parishad Chandigarh, Tagore Theatre, Anujot has also performed ghazals and filmi songs in various Rafi nights besides as lead singer with Brahmaand Academy & various events of Lions Club & Rotary Club.

Her long list of aesthetic and enchanting melodies have found place in a vast number of music albums such as Ishq Kamauna, Yaad Day Saharay, Mast Kalandar, Nanak Faqeer, Rabba Mere, Mahi Anjaan E, Dholna, Sai, Dassey Bina, Rooh Da Hani, Rang Mannya, Ranjhna.

Right now Anujot has immersed herself into creating sufi music, while doing research on sufi poets like Shah Hussain, Baba Bulle Shah, Baba Fareed and many more.

No wonder that with such an enormous amount of singing skill which she has honed to perfection, Anujot was recently honoured with Padma Bhushan Gurmeet Bawa Award by the Great Sports Cultural Club (India) during 8th National Award function apart from numerous other awards from various foundations like Kheti Virasat Mission, Sapt Sindhu, Niveditta Team, 9 to 9 entertainment which conducts Mrs. Punjaban pageants, 2 RR Productions, Centre Of Cultural Resources & Training (CCRT) , Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Academy (CSNA).

Being an ardent devotee of singing maestros such as Reshma, Abida Parveen, Lata Mangeshkar, Surinder Kaur, Noor Jahan, Anujot’s saga of music is sure to leave permanent imprints on the sands of time.
