Honor for Legends: 20 More Punjabi Intellectuals’ Portraits Installed at Punjab Bhavan, New Delhi

The Punjab Language Department continues its dedicated efforts to promote Punjabi language and heritage beyond the state’s borders. As part of this initiative, the department has installed portraits of 20 eminent Punjabi intellectuals at Punjab Bhavan, New Delhi, further expanding the cultural and literary presence of Punjab.

Speaking on the occasion, Director of the Punjab Language Department, Jaswant Singh Zafar, expressed his joy, stating that adorning Punjab Bhavan with portraits of renowned Punjabi writers and thinkers not only honors their legacy but also strengthens the global reach of Punjabi literature and culture. He further announced that more such portraits would be added in the future.

The newly installed portraits include Prof. Puran Singh, Nand Lal Noorpuri, Sant Ram Udasi, Balwant Gargi, Gurmukh Singh Musafir, Saadat Hasan Manto, Norah Richards, Gurbaksh Singh Preetladi, Babu Rajab Ali, Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha, Davinder Satyarthi, Dhani Ram Chatrik, Dr. Jagtar, Giani Hira Singh Dard, Gurdial Singh, Gursharan Singh, and Pandit Shraddha Ram Phillauri.

On this occasion, Zafar assured Punjab Bhavan’s Deputy Resident Commissioner, Ms. Asita Sharma, that the department aims to install portraits of 100 distinguished Punjabi intellectuals by the end of the year.

Also present at the event were Alok Chawla (Assistant Director, Language Department), Dr. Ajitpal Singh (District Language Officer, Moga), Bhupinderpal Singh (Superintendent), and Dr. Santokh Singh Sukhi (Research Officer).
