As a part of the campaign against illegal mining in the district by the Department of Drainage-cum-Mining and Geology, a case of illegal mining has been registered in Majri police station against unknown persons after the case of illegal excavation came to light in Kubbaheri village of Block Majri in SAS Nagar (Mohali).
Executive Engineer, Drainage-cum-Mining and Geology, District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali), Akash Agarwal informed that yesterday, the department received an information about illegal extraction of gravel in Kubbaheri, on which the department inspected the spot while taking action. During this inspection, it was found that about 2.32 lakh cubic feet material from about 29,000 square feet area was initially excavated.
He said that due to the fact that no prior permission was taken from the department for this extraction, a violation of section 4 (1) of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 has been found against the unknown accused. While taking further action in this case, a complaint has been filed with the Majri Police station under Section 4 (1) and 21 (1) of the said Act.

According to the Executive Engineer, Drainage-cum-Mining and Geology, District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, further investigation of the matter has been started after the registration of a complaint by the District Police, during which the exact quantity and ownership of the area under illegal mining will be ascertained by the Drainage and Revenue Department.

He said that the department is committed to initiate strict action against illegal mining.
