Punjabi University VC chaired first Syndicate meeting

A meeting of the Punjabi University syndicate, first under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. B.S. Ghuman, started and ended on a positive note with all the items getting a clear nod midway through.

As it had taken place after a long period of hibernation, a large number of appointments, promotions and extensions, which were awaiting approval of the syndicate, got affirmation with deep observation of the additional chief secretary, education, Punjab, Mr S.K. Sandhu maintaining a watchful eye. Earlier, the syndicate welcomed the appointment of Prof Ghuman as Vice-Chancellor of the University and expressed the hope that, given his intellectual acumen and excellent functioning in the last four months, he would help the University to come out of every kind of adversaries that it had been passing through before his taking over the reins.

Among others, who were present in the meeting included Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof Inderjeet Singh, Registrar, Dr M.S. Nijjer, DPI, Colleges, Dr Harjit Singh, Dean, Students Welfare and Dean, Languages, Prof. Amritpal Kaur, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Culture, Dr Nivedita Uppal. Professor in the department of Persian, Urdu and Arabic, Dr Mohammad Jamil and Director, languages department, Punjab. The Vice-Chancellor presented the sealed reports of enquiries, ordered by the former Vice-Chancellor, Mr Anurag Verma for discussion. The meeting, however, took a decision to discuss these for further course of action based on the judgements of a highly placed retired civil servant and by a retired judicial officer. The syndicate also noted the issue of re-employment of teachers and unanimously decided to keep it pending until its next meeting likely to be held in January. The meeting also authorized the Vice-Chancellor to nominate two members from the finance committee of the university. It also decided to maintain status quo on the issue of teachers in the constituent colleges of the university.

The syndicate okayed the signing of MoU with the University of Fraser Valley, Canada, Daffodil International University, Dhaka and INSEEC, France. It also cleared the setting up of Institute for Industry-University partnership to promote the academic-industry linkages to augment the placements of students in various disciplines. It also approved the establishment of Centre for Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship on the advice of Dean, Research and professor, school of management. It also approved the proceedings of the finance committee, and  sports and cultural committees.
