AAP announces candidate for Punjab’s upcoming assembly bye-election

Aam Aadmi Party has announced the candidature of its Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora ,an industrialist based in Ludhiana for Ludhiana West assembly bye-election, which needs to take place before July 11,2025.
According to the rules, a parliamentary or assembly seat cannot remain vacant for more than six months. Thus, the by-election to the Ludhiana (West) Assembly segment needs to be conducted within six months since the seat fell vacant after the demise of incumbent AAP MLA Gurpreet Singh Gogi on January 11.
Speculations are rife that Arvind Kejriwal will become the Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab after the vacancy created by Sanjeev Arora
AAP has seven Rajya Sabha MPs from Punjab, including entrepreneur Sanjeev Arora, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, politician Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, Harbhajan Singh (Cricketer) , Ashok Mittal (LPU) , Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal (environmentalist).
On October 7, 2024, the Enforcement Directorate had raided the premises of AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjeev Arora and some others as part of a money laundering probe linked to a land fraud case.
