The Department of History, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar  is going to organize two day ICSSR sponsored national seminar on 11-12 March, 2019 the theme Historical Writings on the Jallianwala Bagh(1919).  Hundred years ago, 379 innocent people were killed and thousands were wounded in a firing at Jallianwala Bagh  by Gen.Reginald Dyer, rightly called the ‘butcher of Amritsar’. Gen. Dyer’s anger against the people of Amritsar, who according to him had disobeyed his prohibitory orders, did not end there. He humiliated the citizens of Amritsar by ordering crawling orders, whereby everyone passing the street where Ms. Sherwood was assaulted had to crawl on its four.
