DSGMC President Harmeet Singh Kalka pays tributes to Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa

The President of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Harmeet Singh Kalka today conveyed heartfelt condolences to former union minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa who passed away last week
Kalka attended bhog and antim ardaas held at Dhindsa’s native village Ubhawal in district Sangrur, Punjab.
According to Kalka, Dhindsa who was at number two position in Shiromani Akali Dal as secretary general for more than two decades and was a leader among Sikh and Punjabis living in India and abroad.
He is one such leader who was village sarpanch, was head of state cooperative bank, was elected as an independent MLA, then joined Akali Dal, became minister, was in the upper house of the parliament – Rajya Sabha and remained cabinet minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee cabinet in the Centre”, said Kalka. Also he was a companion of five times Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal.
Dhindsa Saab enjoyed very cordial relations with the leaders of other political parties particularly Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “He (Dhindsa) will be remembered for many more years to come as a statesman who worked for the progress of a regional party and worked on the principle of consensus ”, said Kalka, adding that the political leaders who are his contemporary used to follow Dhindsa and has learnt a lot from his style of working.
Dhindsa was always welcoming and had independent thought with tremendous amount of clarity. He always used to guide us whenever we approached him suggestions or advisory.

According to Harmeet Singh Kalka, “Dhindsa was a custodian of Akali and Sikh values and always used to spade a spade and never used mince words when it has come to party’s pride and esteem,” added Kalka, while offering condolences to Dhindsa’s son former finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa and other members of the family.
