Nangal MC to charge toll tax from Himachal vehicle owners

The Nangal municipal council has proposed to levy toll tax from vehicle owners of neighbouring Himachal Pradesh entering Punjab from Nangal side.
A resolution to this effect was passed during a meeting of Municipal Council Nangal ,which was chaired by Sanjay Sawhney.
Giving details spokesman of Congress Councillors Paramjit Singh Pamma said that during meeting the Councillors were of the view that Himachal Pradesh has been charging toll tax on the vehicles entering Himachal Pradesh a Ajauli,Mehatpur and Bramala from the residents of neighbouring Nangal.
They maintained that hefty toll tax is being charged from Nangal residents at Himachal Pradesh entry points,which is unreasonable and is violation of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) rules as no state government could set up its toll barrier on the road constructed by NHAI and relief from toll tax is provided for the people living within five kilometre radius of toll barrier as per rules.
He said that as long as the Himachal Pradesh did not provide relief from toll tax to Nangal residents, the four-wheeler vehicle entering Nangal from Himachal Pradesh would have to pay toll tax, which would increase the income of the Punjab government.
He said that Punjab government must approve the resolution of Nangal Municipal Council in the larger interest of the residents.
