18 Punjab police officers sent on deputation to jail department; officer waiting for posting, accused in bribery case etc transferred

To strengthen the jail department, Punjab government has sent 3 AIGs , 5 SPs and 10 inspectors on deputation to Punjab jail department for one year or till further orders.
All these officers are sent on deputation to Punjab jails department with one rank above the rank they are holding. Like the AIG is posted as DIG, SP is posted as superintendent of jail and inspectors are posted as deputy superintendent of jails-grade-2.
As per Alok Shekhar, additional chief secretary, Punjab home department, Manmohan Kumar, PPS, Satvir Singh, PPS and Daljit Singh PPS presently posted as AIG in Punjab police has been deputed as deputy inspector general (DIGs)
Ajay Raj Singh, Gagnesh Kumar, Pardeep Singh Sandhu, Mukhtiar Rai and Simranjit Singh all PPS officers and presently posted as superintendent of police (SPs) in Punjab police has been posted as superintendent of central jails.
Similarly, inspectors Asha Rani, Kamaljit Singh, Gurpayar Singh, Aman, Ravi Kumar, Preetinder Singh, Gurinderpal Singh, Simranpreet kaur, Manjit kaur, Jagdev Singh has been posted as deputy superintendent of jails-grade-2

Punjab jail department has 4 posts of DIGs. At present 3 posts are vacant and on 1 post a Punjab police officer SS Mann is holding the dual charge of Amritsar and Ferozepur circle along with the charge of SSOC, Amritsar.
Newly appointed DIG Manmohan Kumar,PPS, is waiting for posting from the last many months. He remained with the vigilance bureau and after his transfer from the bureau on March 9,2025 and he is without any posting.
Similarly, Gagnesh Kumar, PPS, who has been posted as superintendent of central jail is accused in infamous Rs 20 lakh bribery case to manipulate the investigation of the 2019 murder of Sant Dayal Dass, the deputy head of the dera in Faridkot district. Vigilance bureau has named Gagnesh Kumar as accused in the chargesheet.
As per available information, Daljit Singh, AIG Armament who has been posted as DIG jail is going to retire early next year.
