Selling spurious seeds proves costly: dealers penalised, farmers awarded compensation by commission

District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Patiala, presided over by the President Pushvinder Singh and Member Gurdev Singh Nagi, has made an award @ Rs.76800/- per acre of land to the aggrieved farmers due to failure of crops on account of supply of spurious seeds by the dealers Sham Trading Company, New Grain Market, Rajpura Town and Rajpura Pesticides, Krishna Market, Rajpura Town.
In a press communique’ District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Patiala said “These dealers have procured the seeds from the manufacturer M/s Synergene Crop Innovations, Sri Krisna Enclave, Balajinagar, Kuktpally, Hyderabad. This award has been made against the dealers and the manufacturers. The brief facts of the case are as under:
Farmers of various villages under Rajpura sub division have cultivated the crop of Sunflower in the year 2022. However there was no yield as spurious seeds were supplied to the farmers by the local dealers.
These seeds were manufactured by M/s Synergene Crop Innovations, MIG 352/1, Flat No.203, Sri Krisna Enclave, Balajinagar, Kuktpally, Hyderabad whose licence had already elapsed in the year 2019 and was not authorised to sell these seeds in the state of Punjab.The farmers were upset at the loss of the crop
A complaint was filed by the farmers with District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Patiala

The case of the farmers was heard by the bench of Pushvinder Singh President and Member G S Nagi of District Consumer Commission Patiala and was decided in favour of the farmers on 04/08/25
A relief @ Rs76800 per Acre was given to the farmers who had filed the complaints along with compensation of Rs 35000 to each farmer
Earlier the farmers had filed a complaint with CM Punjab and SSP Patiala. Acting on the complaint a committee of specialists was formed and complaint was found to be genuine.
A relief of @Rs 17,000 was given to 20 farmers for loss of crops in 88 Acres of land which has now been enhanced to Rs 76,800 per Acre by the District Consumer Commission Patiala.
