Proud Moment for Indian film, music industry- Diljit Dosanjh nominated as ‘Best Actor’ for an International Award

World renowned Punjabi Singer, Bollywood-pollywood Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh has earned a place on the global stage with his first-ever nomination for the International Emmy Awards 2025.The nominations were announced on Thursday by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
The singer-actor has been shortlisted in the Best Performance by an Actor category for his role in the Netflix biographical drama ‘Amar Singh Chamkila.’ His nomination reflects both his acting range and the growing recognition of Indian artists on global platforms. Diljit’s performance has been widely praised for bringing Chamkila’s charisma and complexity to life and a nomination in the Emmys is definitely another feather in his cap.
Sharing his excitement on Instagram, Dosanjh expressed gratitude to director Imtiaz Ali and the entire team. “It’s all because of Imtiaz Ali Sir,” he wrote.
Diljit has already acclaimed appreciations, awards, critics awards for his powerful performance as Chamkila and now secured him this historic Emmy nomination. The film has also received a nomination in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series category, making it a double celebration for the team.
Directed and co-written by Imtiaz Ali, the Hindi biographical drama stars Dosanjh as Chamkila, often called the “Elvis of Punjab,” and Parineeti Chopra as his wife, Amarjot. The film traces Chamkila’s rise from a Dalit laborer and aspiring musician to a folk icon whose provocative lyrics mirrored rural Punjab’s struggles with caste, desire, and conservatism. It concludes with his shocking assassination in 1988, when both he and Amarjot were gunned down while performing on stage. They were killed at the age of 27.
With music composed by Oscar and Grammy winner A. R. Rahman, the film blends folk roots with modern arrangements and avoids the conventional biopic format, instead using performances and interviews to capture Chamkila’s spirit and the mystery surrounding his death.
The Emmy nod marks another international recognition for Dosanjh, who has become one of India’s most visible global performers. In 2023, he made history as the first Punjabi artist to perform at Coachella, and the following year he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where Fallon introduced him as “the biggest Punjabi artiste on the planet.”
Dosanjh will compete against some of the world’s most acclaimed talents. The 2025 International Emmy Best Actor nominees include David Mitchell for ‘Ludwig,’ Oriol Pla for ‘Yo, Adicto (I, Addict),’ and Diego Vasquez for ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude.’
