Rupnagar Administration organises a function dedicated to the historic treaty at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Bagh

The District Administration Rupnagar organized a function dedicated to the historic treaty at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Bagh Rupnagar, in which the chief guest was the Rupnagar MLA Advocate. Dinesh Chadha. On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar. Varjeet  Walia, Additional Deputy Commissioner Chandrajyoti Singh, IAS Under Training. Abhimanyu Malik were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Dinesh Chadha, said that on this historic day, 26 October 1831, a royal meeting was held at this place between Maharaja Ranjit Singh and then British Governor General Lord William Bentinck, in which a treaty was signed to resolve border issues and form an alliance in the region. This event was organized by the district administration to commemorate that day.

Chadha said that Rupnagar is a historical city, which related to Indus Valley civilization.He said  town has treaty site of Maharaja Ranjit Singh adding that  post of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s reign ‘Sarkar-e-Khalsa’, which is established on a heritage hill on the banks of the Sutlej River, is  also present and efforts are being made to preserve it.

He said that Punjab government led by Bhagwant Singh Mann also made a straight path to the ‘Sarkar-e-Khalsa’ by laying stairs and the district administration is getting the road beautification and lighting done on the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Marg along the Sutlej River.

Poetry, essay and painting competitions were also organized for school students on this occasion in which Davinder Kaur, Gaganpreet Kaur and Harpreet Kaur secured the first, second and third places respectively in poetry recitation. Similarly, Harjot Kaur secured the first, Amanpreet Kaur secured the second and Simranjot Kaur secured the third place in the essay competition. Apart from this, Akisha secured the first, Tarmanpreet Kaur secured the second and Divanur Kaur and Avni Mishra secured the third place in the painting competition. On this occasion, SDM Rupnagar Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Naib Tehsildar Karanbir Singh Mann, Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary Education) Inderjit Singh, teachers and students from various schools were also present.
