During a large and historic event held in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Member of the BJP Central Parliamentary Board, former Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities Government of India, and a renowned Sikh scholar, was honoured with the “Baba Baghel Singh Award” by local farmers. This honour was conferred by Terai Sikh farmers from the districts of Bijnor, Rampur, Pilibhit, and Lakhimpur Kheri in recognition of his role in resolving their long standing struggle for land rights.
According to available information, thousands of families who migrated during the India Pakistan partition settled in these districts of Uttar Pradesh. However, for nearly seven decades, they were deprived of legal ownership rights over their land. As a result, they faced serious challenges in obtaining bank loans for agriculture, selling their produce at government procurement centres, and accessing various government benefits.
When this issue came to the attention of Dr. Lalpura, he took it up seriously and strongly presented it before the Uttar Pradesh government. As a result of his efforts, through the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Second Amendment Act 2026, amendments were made to the Revenue Code 2006, and under Section 76(1), full ownership rights were granted to these affected families.
With this significant decision, thousands of Sikh farmers have now gained legal ownership of their land. This will enable them to access bank loans more easily, sell their produce in government mandis, and benefit from various government schemes. It will not only strengthen their economic condition but also provide them with legal security.

Dr. Iqbal Singh Lalpura stated that his life has always been dedicated to farmers and public service. He expressed pride in being able to raise the voice of the country’s farmers before the government and help them secure their rightful entitlements.
This honour is not only a matter of pride for Punjab but also for the entire Sikh community.
