Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, organised a special seminar to commemorate the Parkash Gurpurab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
The programme featured an interactive talk on “Unity in Devotion and Action: A Study of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Philosophy of Life”, jointly organised by the Directorate of Cultural & Sports and the University Business School.
Renowned writer and Director, Punjab Language Department, Jaswant Singh Zafar, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his insightful address, he highlighted Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s eternal philosophy centred on Naam Japna, Kirat Karni, and Vand Chakna. He emphasised Guru Sahib’s emphasis on equality, social justice, and the rejection of discrimination and hollow rituals.

He stressed that the teachings of Gurbani hold timeless relevance, adding that even adopting one principle of Guru Sahib can profoundly transform life. He also encouraged students to take pride in their mother tongue, sharing examples from around the world where native languages have played a major role in cultural and academic growth. He cited Nobel laureate Chandrashekhar, who completed his thesis in Tamil, stating that learning is most effective in one’s mother tongue.
Guest of Honour, acclaimed artist Gurpreet Singh, reflected on the spiritual bond between Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Bhai Mardana. Adding an artistic dimension to the seminar, he created a live painting of the revered duo based on the theme “Jithe Tera Vassa, Uthe Mera Vassa”, which deeply resonated with the audience and enriched the spiritual atmosphere.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma extended warm greetings on the 556th Parkash Purab and welcomed dignitaries and participants. He emphasised Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s universal message of truth, humility, compassion, and selfless service, urging students to integrate these values into their lives.
