Today evening the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a posting orders of Surender Lamba, IPS as the new senior superintendent of police (SSP), Tarn Taran relieving Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, IPS, Commissioner of Police , Amritsar of the additional charge.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has suspended the SSP, Tarn Taran Ravjot Kaur Grewal, IPS on Akali Dal’s complaint. Ravjot Grewal, IPS was the first woman officer to join the border district of Punjab as SSP Tarn Taran on September 11,2025.

Now, Surender Lamba, IPS will be the ninth SSP of Tarn Taran in the present around three and a half years (43 months ) of AAP government. Lamba is presently posted as AIG, Personnel-1, CPO, Chandigarh

Before Lamba, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar (for few hours), Ravjot Kaur Grewal (less than 2 months), Ranjit Singh Dhillon, Gurmeet Singh Chuhan, Ashwani Kapoor, Gaurav Toora, Abhimanyu Rana, Deepak Pareek remained SSP of this political sensitive border district of Punjab.

The alleged trouble maker MLA of Tarn Tarn Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal has passed away and the court has announced  Kahdoor Sahib MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura as guilty in an old case.

Ranjit Singh Dhillon was the first SSP of Tarn Taran in AAP Govt’s tenure who was transferred from the post under political pressure.  Late Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal and some other MLAs of the district had met top state police officials and demanded the transfer of SSP from here. He remained posted for around seven months.

In 2023, an IPS officer posted as SSP Tarn Taran Gurmeet Singh Chauhan was transferred after a tiff with AAP MLA Khadoor sahib Lalpura after police booked MLA’s kin in a case. Chauhan was kept waiting for a posting for more than three months.

After Chuhan, Gaurav Toora, along with the deputy commissioner, were transferred following complaints by the local leadership after both were spotted sharing a stage with Akali Dal former MLA Virsa Singh at a function.

Later Abhimanyu Rana’s transfer comes amidst his vocal criticism by AAP Khadoor Sahib MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura over the handling of sub-inspector Charanjit Singh case who was shot dead in April this year. Lalpura, in a post on Facebook, had levelled allegations against SSP Rana for falsely implicating locals from his constituency in connection with the murder of SI.
