Seminar on “Guru Gobind Singh Ji: Life and Bani” orgainsed by World University, dedicated to Martyrdom of younger Sahibzadas

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib organised a special academic seminar titled “Guru Gobind Singh Ji: Life and Bani”, marking the beginning of a series of programmes commemorating the martyrdom of Mata Gujri Ji and the younger Sahibzadas. The seminar was conducted in an atmosphere of reverence, solemn reflection, and academic rigour.
The programme commenced with the recitation of Gurbani Shabad Kirtan, which infused the environment with spiritual fervour. This was followed by a welcome address by Dr. Sikandar Singh, Dean Students’ Welfare, who warmly welcomed the Vice-Chancellor, eminent speakers, distinguished guests, faculty members, and students. In his address, he emphasised that the life and teachings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji continue to inspire courage, moral strength, and social responsibility among the youth. He also highlighted the relevance of such academic programmes in linking Sikh history and philosophy with contemporary life.
Following the welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Prit Pal Singh, delivered his presidential address. He stated that the life of Guru Gobind Singh Ji stands as an eternal source of inspiration, embodying truth, justice, sacrifice, and universal human values. He stressed that the Guru’s ideals remain profoundly relevant in the modern world, particularly in fostering moral integrity, fearless leadership, and social harmony.
On this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Sukhwinder Singh Billing, Dean Academic Affairs, addressed the gathering as a special guest and underscored the importance of academic research and Sikh studies. He emphasised that universities must play a pivotal role in preserving, interpreting, and disseminating the rich intellectual and spiritual heritage of Sikhism through rigorous scholarship.

The keynote address was delivered by the renowned Sikh scholar Sant Kanwaljit Singh (Nirmal Ashram, Sukhanand, Moga), who presented an in-depth and insightful exposition on the life, Bani, and philosophy of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He elaborated on the Guru’s unique spiritual vision, unwavering commitment to social justice, defence of righteousness, and supreme sacrifices made for human freedom. He further highlighted that the Bani of Guru Gobind Singh Ji offers enduring guidance for ethical conduct, selfless service, courage, and tolerance in contemporary society.
The seminar was further enriched by scholarly deliberations from Prof. Harbhajan Singh (former Professor, Dr. Balbir Singh Literature Centre, Dehradun) and Prof. Jaspal Kaur Dhanju (former Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala), who shared their valuable insights on the literary, philosophical, and historical dimensions of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s life and teachings.
The programme was conducted in a systematic and effective manner by Dr. Nav Shagan Deep Kaur, while Ekroop Kaur efficiently discharged her responsibilities as the Stage Coordinator.
At the conclusion of the programme, Dr. Nav Shagan Deep Kaur presented the vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, all eminent speakers, distinguished guests, faculty members, students, and the organising team. She remarked that such academic initiatives play a vital role in connecting the younger generation with the ideology, sacrifices, and life philosophy of the Sikh Gurus.
A large number of faculty members, research scholars, and students of the University participated in the seminar and derived profound spiritual and intellectual inspiration from the life and Bani of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
