Himachal cadre IPS officer appointed DG of India’s premier investigating agency

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for appointment of Rakesh Aggarwal, IPS (HP:1994), SDG, NIA, as Director General, National Investigation Agency (NIA) from the date of assumption of charge of the post and upto 31-08-2028 i.e. the date of his superannuation or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The post of Director General (DG) of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) became vacant most recently after the premature repatriation of Sadanand Vasant Date to his parent cadre on December 30, 2025. Following Date’s departure, Rakesh Aggarwal was assigned the additional charge of the post
