National Cancer Survivors’ Day celebrations-Cancer survivors perform bhangra with docs

As many as 100 cancer survivors along with their doctors celebrated National Cancer Survivors’ Day at IMA Bhawan here on Sunday with full zest and zeal. The doctors including Dr Sachin Gupta, Dr Sunanadan Sharma, Dr Gautam Goel ,Dr Ritesh Pruthi, Dr Pankaj Kumar and Dr Sajal Kakkar from Max Hospital, Mohali joined survivors in bhangra.

Sandeep Dogra, sr vice president & zonal had- Max Healthcare, Punjab said, “ All have gathered today to show the world that life after a cancer treatment is equally rewarding, fulfilling and inspiring. Though journey to become cancer-free is full of struggles and hardships, but one can overcome any challenge in life if he or she don’t give up on hope and is determined.”

37 year-old Surbhi from Pinjore who is one of the jubilant survivors said, “My treatment went on for about 9-month, which was pretty long, but it made me stronger as a  person and now I feel fearless and ready to take on any challenge that  life will throw at me. The journey completely transformed my outlook towards life & personality and has increased my self belief.

Similarly, Amritpal Kaur from Jalandhar said, “Many aspects of life have changed for me like others who sailed in the same boat. No more crying over little issues and most importantly, I have started to sincerely value my life, by taking care of my diet, fitness and most importantly, doing what makes me feel happy.”

“My will power to fight cancer came solely from the love and support I got from my family during the treatment. As a survivor, I request each and every family member to be very positive, calm and hopeful whenever around the patient.”, said Lakhwinder From Chandigarh

Addressing survivors, Dr Sachin Gupta, Associate Director , Medical and Hemato oncology said, “It is a day for everyone, whether you’re a cancer survivor, a family member, friend, or medical professional. This day provides an opportunity for all people living with a history of cancer to connect with each other, celebrate milestones, and recognize those who have supported them along the way.”

Our endeavor is to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors by raising awareness. National Cancer Survivors Day is an opportunity for us as a community to demonstrate that it has an active, productive cancer survivor population and to bring awareness to the challenges they face during and after treatment, opined Dr Gupta.
