Punjab Health & Family Welfare and Medical Education & Research Minister Dr. Balbir Singh has appealed to parents of children born with congenital hearing and speech disabilities to immediately visit Rajindra Hospital for free-of-cost treatment. The Minister was at Rajindra Hospital to meet the four-year-old beneficiary of the first successful Cochlear Implant Surgery performed at the institution, along with her parents.

Dr. Balbir Singh stated that although specialist doctors were already available at Rajindra Hospital, the lack of advanced equipment had earlier posed challenges. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government has now fulfilled these requirements. As a result, no patient will be compelled to visit a private hospital or referred PGI due to the non-availability of ventilators or other technical facilities.

Health Minister further said that Rajindra Hospital had ENT specialists capable of treating congenital deaf-mute children, whose treatment usually costs ₹10–12 lakh at private hospitals. However, the hospital earlier lacked essential equipment such as audiometry systems, para-medical support, speech therapists and other technical infrastructure. These gaps have now been filled on priority, enabling the hospital to provide Cochlear Implant Surgery and related services free of cost.

Paramjeet Kaur and Jasvir Das , the parents of the beneficiary child, Guneet Kaur, from the village Kularan near Samana, expressed their gratitude to the Punjab Government, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh and the doctors of the ENT Department at Rajindra Hospital. They shared that, due to the government’s efforts, their daughter has now overcome the lifelong disability of being deaf-mute, giving her a bright future.

The Medical Education Minister further informed that liver and kidney transplants, as well as heart, brain and spinal surgeries, are also being performed in government hospitals. Rajindra Hospital is upgrading all its operation theatres into modular OTs and a trauma centre is also being established—an important achievement of the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government.

Dr. Balbir Singh emphasized that the primary goal of the Punjab Government is to ensure that all 3 crore citizens of the state receive high-quality healthcare services, and that government hospitals should be on par with, or better than, private hospitals.

Present on the occasion were Dr. Raminderpal Singh Sibia, Director-Principal of Government Medical College, Dr. Vishal Chopra, Medical Superintendent, and Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Bhagat and Dr. Dinesh Kumar from the ENT Department.
