Illustrious power engineer Baldev Singh Sran honoured by his alma mater

On April 8, 2026, one of Punjab’s leading engineering colleges, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, honoured its alumnus Baldev Singh Sran on its Foundation Day while celebrating its Platinum Jubilee.

Gulab Chand Kataria, along with Harjinder Singh Dhami, bestowed the “Distinguished Alumnus Award” upon him.

Baldev Singh Sran retired as CMD PSPCL, marking the culmination of an illustrious career that began as an SDO. Throughout his journey, he not only led the corporation with distinction but also served as the President of PSEB Engineers Association (PSEBEA), championing the cause of power sector.

His tenure has been defined by his exceptional technical expertise, unwavering commitment to the power sector, and an emphasis on operational excellence. Known for his exemplary leadership and honesty, Er. Sran has always prioritised transparency, efficiency. His dedication to upholding the highest professional and ethical standards has set a benchmark for the entire engineering community.

Sran was born on February 7, 1960, and graduated from Guru Nanak Engineering College (GNEC), Ludhiana, in B.Sc electrical engineering (honors) (1978-82 batch).

He started his career as a trainee engineer at the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) in 1982 and joined the PSPCL, erstwhile PSEB, as a trainee engineer in 1983 and elevated to the level of Chief Engineer.  Sran served the PSPCL for more than 34 years in various important assignments. He has served for more than 19 years in generation, 6 years in transmission and 8 years in distribution in different capacities in the PSPCL.

Later he was appointed as CMD, Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) by Capt Amarinder Singh led Congress government in June 2018 for two years. After around one year he again rejoined PSPCL as CMD in 2021.
