Barnala DC urges officials, residents to save every drop of rainwater

Under the Jal Shakti Abhiyaan (JSA), rainwater harvesting structures and soak pits to store excess rainwater should be constructed in government buildings to enable recharging of underground water. It was stressed by the members of central team appointed under the JSA for Barnala district during a review meeting with administrative officials. The team members also held an interactive session with the personnel of police, education department, forest department and various other departments.

Central team members informed that under this mission it is decided that every drop of rainwater should be saved for the purpose of increasing the ground water table or be stored for daily use. They added that rooftops of the government buildings in district especially schools would be used to save the rainwater in this monsoon season.

Deputy Commissioner Barnala  Tej Partap Singh Phoolka urged the government officials and district residents to save every drop of rainwater this monsoon so that this natural and valuable water should not go waste.

DC informed that the government schools along with other government complexes have been identified for the purpose of installing rainwater harvesting system.  He added that there were grey areas where water-level is continuously depleting for the past many years and the efforts were on to recharge the groundwater with the help of modern techniques. He informed that as many as five ponds in each block would also be developed to increase their water holding capacity and enabling water to seep into ground for raising water table.

On this occasion, SSP Harjit Singh, ADC (d) Parveen Kumar, SDM Sandeep Kumar, DIO Neeraj Garg among several others were also present.
