DC, SSP, prominent citizens leads Self-Enumeration as Census 2027 begins in Barnala

The first phase of the Census 2027 began today with the launch of Self-Enumeration across Punjab. In Barnala district, Deputy Commissioner, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), renowned actress Rupinder Rupi and other prominent personalities done their self-enumeration on the portal, thereby formally inaugurating the campaign. They appealed to all residents of the district to actively participate and complete their self-enumeration.

Addressing a press conference held at the District Administrative Complex, Barnala, the Deputy Commissioner cum Principal Census Officer Harpreet Singh IAS stated that the Self-Enumeration portal has been opened today. He personally completed his enumeration and urged the people of Barnala to take part in this important national exercise. He clarified that citizens do not need to share any OTP with enumerators or any other person during the self-enumeration process.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that SMS messages are also being sent to create awareness among district residents about self-enumeration. Deputy Commission also released the poster regarding census.

He further stated that this will be the 16th National Census of India and the 8th Census after Independence. The last Census was conducted in 2011, according to which the total population of Barnala district was 5,95,527, comprising 3,17,522 males and 2,78,005 females.

On this occasion, SSP Mohammed Sarfraz Alam also completed his self-enumeration on the portal and appealed to the residents to actively participate in this nationwide mission.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Vivek Modi, SDM Mahal Kalan Kritika Goyal, international sportsperson Harpreet Singh Happy (Boxer), writer Teja Singh Tilak, Gurjant Singh, Tarsem, Retired Colonel Labh Singh, Subedar Major Jarnail Singh and several other prominent personalities also performed their self-enumeration on the portal.

Speaking on the occasion, Research Officer and Additional District Census Officer Charanjit Kaur informed that a Toll-Free Helpline number 1855 has been operational for the Census. She added that a Census Cell has also been established at the District Administrative Complex, Barnala.

She further stated that the first phase of House Listing Operations (HLO) will commence from May 15 to June 13 2026 during which enumerators will visit every household and ask 33 questions. She appealed to all citizens to provide correct and accurate information.
