Teething troubles for FASTag; date extended till December 15

Due to teething troubles, citizens not enabled to do their vehicles with FASTaged, the Union Government has extended the date for making FASTag mandatory at toll plaza for toll payments on National Highways in pan Indi to 15th of next month. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had earlier announced that from 1st of December, toll payments on highways would be accepted through FASTags only.

A FASTag a rdaio frequency identification (RFID)  device, will be required by all vehicles pass through National Highways, run by National Highway of Authority (NHAI) from, December 15.

The Ministry in a statement said that it has been found that many citizens have still not enabled their vehicles with FASTag due to various reasons.  It said, to provide some more time to citizens to buy and put FASTag on their vehicles, it has now been decided that charging of double User Fee from vehicles which enter FASTag lane without FASTag will start from 15th of December this year. The Ministry also said, NHAI FASTag will continue to be provided free of cost till 15th December.

In order to save fuel, time and pollution and to ensure seamless movement of traffic, the government has launched the National Electronic Toll Collection program which provides for the collection of user fee through FASTag. National Highways Authority of India, has equipped all Fee Plazas with Electronic Toll Collection System and to ease in availability of FASTag, it has also launched MyFASTag APP whereby all information regarding FASTag can be obtained.
