Punjab Police started process to get more cops in duty in police stations

With reports of shortage of staff in police stations across the state, Punjab Police ADGP (Admn.) has written a letter on the behalf of Director General of Police,Punjab to all the Range Inspector General of Police (IGP’s), all Commissioners of police in Punjab, all Senior Superintendent of Police in Punjab to withdraw the newly directly appointed Sub Inspectors and Constables from non-essential duties and security duties and post them in Police Stations.

Punjab police has taken this decision in a recently held meeting at PAP Complex, Jalandhar on December, 12, 2019 under the command of Director General of Police with all Senior Superintendent of Police and Commissioners of police.

In this meeting it was decided to post directly appointed Sub Inspectors and Constables of District Police cadre in Police Stations, so that can perform critical policing duties. Such police officials should be withdrawn from non-essential duties and security duties and immediately posted them in Police Stations.

As per the information 655 Sub Inspectors and 17,360 Constables have been directly recruited in the District Police Cadre. Most of these police officials are highly qualified, of younger age profile and are extremely important human resource for the Punjab Police.

The DGP office issued an order to all IGP’s, CP’s SSP’s in this regard on December 17, 2019. In the orders, they were directed to deploy these directly police officials in Police Stations at cutting-edge level policing duties.

It further mentioned that “such police officials may be retained on security duties/ non-police station duties only with the personal approval of concerned CP/ SSP in extremely rare cases which should not exceed 5% of total sanctioned strength in the concerned rank in the District/ Commissionerate.

The main purpose of this is that focus of the police needed to be on cracking crimes, maintain law and order, traffic problems something that could happen only when there was adequate staff in the Police Stations.
