A suspected case of Bird Flu reported in Punjab; sample sent to Bhopal for confirmation

Exhorting the people not to panic with the reports of a suspected case of bird flu being reported from SAS Nagar, Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said that the administration is on full guard and regular sampling is being done on daily basis to keep a tab on suspected cases of avian influenza.

He said that one suspected case has been forwarded to NRDDL, Jalandhar from where it is being sent to Bhopal for further investigation. The final report is still awaited.

Earlier officials at the Regional Disease Diagnosis Laboratory in Jalandhar said the samples received from Alpha Poultry Farm and Royal Poultry Farm at Behra village in Dera Bassi sub division of Mohali district were found positive by RT-PCR test. Laboratory officials said, “According to protocol, the samples have been sent to the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory in Bhopal for confirmation.”
