Shiv sena supremo and Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has decided to launch an investigation “to know if celebrities like Bharat Ratna Awardee Sachin Tendulkar and singer Lata Mangeshkar, tweeted under pressure by the Centre in support of farm laws, using hashtags #IndiaTogether and #IndiaAgainstPropaganda following tweets by Rihanna and climate activist Greta Thunberg backing farmers.”
Rihanna who sided with the farmers sitting at the Delhi Border had elicited an united response from many eminent celebrities including luminaries like Lata Mangeshkar and Sachin Tendulkar. It is alleged that similar pattern behind these tweets by the celebrities including Virat Kohli, Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Sachin Tendulkar, Saina Nehwal and others. The contents of the tweets by Nehwal and Kumar are same while Shetty had tagged a BJP leader. It needs to be investigated if there was any pressure from the BJP on these national heroes for such advocacy on the social media.
“It has been revealed that there were same posts by celebrities at the same time, hence it will be investigated by the state intelligence agency, why it has happened”, said Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Desmukh.
Rihanna’s tweet controversy-Lata Mangeshkar, Scahin Tendulkar tweet come under scanner.This comes a day after the Congress party demanded a probe by the police into the tweets posted by celebrities to counter the global criticism of the government’s handling of the farmers’ protest.
The move was criticised in several quarters, with veteran NCP leader Sharad Pawar warning the cricket legend to be more careful while commenting on farmers’ issues. “I would suggest to Sachin (Tendulkar) that he should be careful while speaking on the issues related to other fields,” Pawar said.
MNS chief Raj Thackeray said. ” Lata Mangeshkar, Sachin Tendulkar are big but very simple people. They are having to face the ire of people because of what the government asked them to tweet”.
