Patiala on the path of beautification; DC reviewed the ongoing projects

Deputy Commissioner Patiala Kumar Amit reviewed the ongoing work of beautification and renovation of Patiala’s Chhoti Nadi for its reshaping. He was accompanied by the Patiala Urban Planning and Development Authority, Surbhi Malik, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Pooja Sayal Grewal and Superintending Engineer, Drainage Department, Davinder Singh.
The Deputy Commissioner said that reshaping the chhoti Nadi and Vaddi Nadi of Patiala by renovating and beautifying it, besides, developing it as a tourist spot, was a dream project of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Member of Parliament, Preneet Kaur. He further said that the Patiala Urban Planning and Development Authority has been designated as the nodal agency for its completion by adding that these two important projects worth Rs 208 Crore would prove milestone in the development history of the royal city Patiala.
He said that the work was in full swing to reshape the structure of the chhoti nadi and the work on its next phase, would be started soon. He said that the work of laying pipes at Tafajalpura has been completed and pipes were being laid in Azad Nagar. He said that the beautification work of the chhoti Nadi, from the railway station Tafajalpura to Deer Park, on 4.50 km long stretch, was in full swing. Apart from that a 26 MLD capacity STP at village Ghalori would also be constructed.
He further said that besides the concrete lining of the river, laying of tracks for cycling and pedestrians, beautification and renovation work would help in keeping the environment clean as well as get rid of the diseases caused by pollution and will be helpful in recharging the ground water. He said because these rivers were part of the main drainage system in the city and due to obstructions in the monsoon season, there was a risk of floods but their renovation would also improve the drainage system. Davinder Singh, Superintending Engineer, Drainage Department apprised the Deputy Commissioner about the ongoing work.
