Every grain of wheat purchased & lifted in Barnala distt :DC
Barnala-Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mr. Dharam Pal Gupta, on Wednesday, said that each and every grain of the wheat crop, brought by farmers in the grain markets of district, has been purchased by the procurement agencies. He added that the administration has also achieved the target of 100 percent lifting within the set schedule. He informed that till May 9, the procurement agencies have procured 459,898 MT wheat from 98 grain markets of the district and with this figure, Barnala district has also surpassed last year’s wheat procurement figure which was of 455788.4 MT.
Gupta informed that the procurement agencies have also released the amount of Rs. 776.55 which was around 97 percent of the total amount. He added that pending three percent payment will also be released soon. He said that the procurement agencies have procured 4109.6 MT more wheat as compared to previous year figures. He said that though the arrival has been stalled in the grain market but the procurement process in the main markets will continue till the prescribed schedule of Punjab Government.
DC informed that out of the total 459898 MT, Pungrain purchased 118541 MT, Markfed 100933, PUNSUP 114863 MT, Warehouse 55987 MT, Punjab Agro 44597 MT and FCI purchased 24977 MT of wheat. He added that farmers and commission agents (Arhtiyas) were also fully satisfied with the procurement process due to adequate arrangements done by the government and district administration.
Deputy Commissioner also appealed the farmers to not to set the crop residue on fire and said that setting up farms on fire not only reduces fertility of land but also damages various types of farm-friendly insects. He added that besides posing threat to our atmosphere due to smoke remitted after fire, it also pose major threat for commuters and travelers.
