496 Apiculturists to be given 20160 boxes of Bees-DC

Bathinda-To encourage farmers for supplementing their income through agriculture allied business, a honey Cluster is being developed at village Tungwali by the Small Scale Industries Department Government of India. Around 40 farmers and women farmers falling under this cluster left for two-days tour to the Markfed’s honey processing unit at Jalandhar and Punjab’s Center for Excellence for Vegetables at Kartarpur. Deputy Commissioner Bathinda Diprava Lakra today flagged off this van. Deputy Director Department of Horticulture Gurkewal Singh was also present.

Lakra stated that during two days visit farmers will gather knowledge of various aspects of honey production and vegetable cultivation. He added that besides this, to encourage bee farming, the Department of Horticulture,  Bathinda will give 20160 boxes of bees to 496 farmers of district. It will produce around 605 MT of honey annually.

He added that in order to increase pollination, under the National Horticulture Mission every beneficiary will be given 50 boxes on 40 percent subsidy. Total cost incurred on boxes is Rs 2 lacs on which Rs 80000 subsidy is given.Horticulture development officer Raman Mandi Harmanpreet Singh was also present.
