As per available information, Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh is going to resign at 3 PM today, before the beginning of the congress legislature party (CLP) scheduled meeting at 5:00 pm
As per sources, he is going to meet the Governor at 3:00 pm and will submit his resignation as chief minister of Punjab, paving the way for the congress leaders to elect their new CLP leader and chief minister. He has already asked the high command that he is also going to quit the party.
On the other hand, party has asked Sunil Jakhar, who is away to reach Chandigarh before CLP meeting begins. As per available information, his security has been tightened, giving signals that he is going to be the next CM, by today evening.
After the election of the new CLP leader, a new cabinet is going to be formed. As per internal sources, some of the cabinet ministers, who remained loyal with the chief minister, may be dropped and new faces will be inducted in the new cabinet.
Earlier, in a midnight development, the Congress has called a legislature party meet for Punjab on Saturday. Senior Congress leader and incharge Punjab affairs Harish Rawat informed that the party had received “representation” from many of its MLAs in the state to “immediately convene” the meeting, which will take place today at 5:00 pm”
While the chief minister is the leader of the CLP and usually calls the meeting, the AICC directive is being seen as unusual, signalling fresh fireworks in the faction-ridden state unit.
Since morning, lots of political activities were going on in the state. Navjot Singh Sidhu’s principal strategic adviser Mohammad Mustafa IPS (Retd.) tweeted “liberate cong moment for 79/80 legislators to redeem the party and its honour. Big tnk you, party leadership for the opportunity.”
Later Sunil Jakhar praised Rahil Gandhi for taking a bold leadership decision related to Punjab. He tweeted” Kudos to Sh @RahulGandhi for adopting Alexandrian solution to this punjabi version of Gordian knot. Surprisingly, this bold leadership decision to resolve Punjab Congress imbroglio has not only enthralled congress workers but has sent shudders down the spines of Akalis.”
