Bar Council Punjab and Haryana dashed hopes of 25 Advocates “one day trip” plan

Taking cognizance of Bar Association Samrala, Ludhiana notice issued by them to the Presiding Officer to adjust and adjourn their cases on November 21,2022 (Monday), Bar Council of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh has issued a Show Cause Notice to the President , Bar Association, Samrala to submit a written explanation about their letter and provide the Council with a valid cause to why appropriate action should not to be taken in this regard.
Twenty member of Bar Association Samrala, Ludhiana has planned a trip to Morni Hills (Near Panchkula, Haryana) on November 21, 2022. In this context they had written a request letter to the Presiding Officer to adjust and adjourn their cases on November 21,2022 (Monday).
Reacting sharply, the Bar Council of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh has sought explanation from them and advised to immediately withdraw the captioned letter. The letter read, ““The council is astonished to see the above mentioned letter addressed by you, in the capacity of President, Bar Association, Samrala to the Presiding Officer of the local Court. Bar Council believes in observing high morale/ ethical/ etiquette values in all respects and expects the same from all bar associations, more importantly from its elected representatives. Those who live by the law should keep the law. An advocate is considered as an officer of the court, honoured member of the community, a gentleman, thinking that to become a member of the Bar he has to be lawful and morale not only in his professional capacity but also in his non-professional capacity. Advocates have a continuing responsibility to uphold the fundamental principle of justice from the law cannot depart, further to insure that access to justice should never be put on hold.”
Further written in the letter “the letter issued by you is a complete departure from the established rules of professional standards as mentioned in Chapter II,Part VI of the bar Council of India Rules and precedents.
