Kanwar Inder Singh/ May 5,2023

The Central University of Punjab organised a one-day Workshop and Training Programme on the effective use of E-resources, Databases, AI Writing, and Research Assistance Tools. The event, held on May 4, 2023, aimed to enable students and researchers to make optimal use of information and access the knowledge available in the public domain.

Dr. Bhupinder Singh, Programme Convener, and Assistant Librarian, welcomed the participants and informed them that the purpose of this workshop was to empower the researchers and students to effectively utilise e-resources and anti-plagiarism software such as Turnitin and AI Writing, Scopus, Science Direct, LexisNexis, CMIE States of India, and Prowess IQ, to gain new knowledge.

Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor, delivered the presidential address and stated that the university conducted this training programme to increase the intellectual capacity of students to utilise authentic information available online for learning and the creation of new knowledge. He added that this programme would provide technical details of various e-resources (Science Direct, SCOPUS, LexisNexis, States of India, and Prowess IQ) and software utilised by researchers worldwide to get the latest knowledge about their discipline and to do plagiarism checks on their work. This would provide an in depth understanding of various e-resources and help them produce high-quality research.

The workshop featured a training session by Deepak Khushwaha from Turnitin India , who provided training on “Turnitin and AI Writing Detection Tools” to do similarity checks and identify text generated by AI-based machine learning systems. Participants were also provided training by Vinita from Elsevier on Scopus, an expertly curated abstract and citation database, to quickly find relevant and authoritative research and get access to reliable data, metrics, and analytical tools. Towards the end of the inaugural session, training was provided on the Science Direct website, which provides access to a peer-reviewed journal article database covering research in the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and the humanities.
