End of an era: last member of Nawab Sher Khan family, who raised voice against the execution of Guru Gobind’s sons, passes away

Today, 103 years old Begum Munawwar-ul-Nisa, the wife of wife of Nawab Muhammad Iftikhar ‘Ali Khan Bahadur (20 May 1904 – 20 November 1982), last Nawab of Malerkotla, passes away.

Her husband, late Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan, was the eighth-generation descendent of Nawab Sher Mohammad. He was also the last Nawab of Malerkotla.

Nawab Sher Mohammad had earned the undying gratitude of of the Sikhs, as he had raised his voice against the order of the subedar of Sirhind, Wazir Khan, for the execution of of Guru Gobind Singh’s two younger sons.

Begum Munawar ul Nisa, known popularly as ‘Begum Sahiba’ lived alone in the twilight of her life in the dilapidated palace called ‘Mubarak Manzil’.
