Gangotri Dham Portals closed for winter

In Uttarakhand, the Portals of the sacred shrine Gangotri Dham located in Uttarkashi were closed for the winter today on the occasion of the Annakoot festival with full rituals and the chanting of Vedic mantras.
On this occasion, thousands of devotees were present to pay their obedience to goddess Ganga. With the closure of the shrine, the festive procession of Goddess Ganga has left in a palanquin decorated with flowers for its winter resting place at Mukhwa village in Uttarkashi District.Thousands of devotees attended the closing ceremony. Gangotri Dham received a record number of pilgrims this season. More than 9,98,000 pilgrims visited the shrine this year, a temple committee official said.
Prayers were also offered to goddess Ganga for the safe evacuation of 40 workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel on the Char Dham route for more than 60 hours now.
Panch Gangotri Temple Committee spokesperson said that now devotees will be able to have darshan of Goddess Ganga in Mukhwa for the next six months. The Portals of the Kedarnath and Yamunotri Dham will be closed for the devotees on the occasion of Bhaiya Dooj tomorrow.
