AIIMS Bathinda acknowledges the significance of the nursing profession and its crucial role in patient care. However, recent events surrounding the ongoing protest by Nursing Officers at AIIMS Bathinda have prompted an official statement from the institution.
The protest, initiated by Nursing Officers on November 25, 2023, began as a peaceful demonstration with the gesture of wearing black ribbons on their shoulders while on duty, coupled with a candle march. Regrettably, the protest escalated over time, transitioning from a peaceful demonstration to disruptive actions that affected the hospital’s operations.
Incidents occurred wherein the protest extended into residential areas during late hours, causing disturbance to residents. Furthermore, the protest culminated in a march in front of the Director’s residence during their absence, leading to further disturbance.
On December 1st, attempts were made to block the main entrance of AIIMS Bathinda, resulting in significant disruption to emergency services due to restricted access for patients. The protest also involved raising slogans and creating noisy disturbance in hospital premises, impacting the well-being of patients seeking care. Unfortunately, a few Nursing Officers also engaged in misconduct by mistreating security officers, pushing and behaving inappropriately towards the security staff carrying out their duties.
AIIMS Bathinda clarifies that the recruitment of Nursing Officers falls under the purview of the “Mission Recruitment” policy formulated by the Government of India. The institution strictly adheres to and implements guidelines set forth by the government for recruitment, and any demands related to recruitment are beyond the institution’s authority.
Regarding the demand for 8 working offs, it’s important to note that the allocation of working offs is in compliance with regulations established by the Government of India. The demand seems to be influenced by practices at other institutions, which are unrelated to AIIMS Bathinda. The institution emphasizes its commitment to following government-mandated rules.

Representatives of the protesting Nursing Officers have formally submitted their demands, which have subsequently been forwarded to the concerned department in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for necessary action and we are expecting a response from the Ministry soon.
The institution reiterates its deep respect for the nursing profession and assures its dedication to ensuring a conducive working environment while upholding the highest standards of patient care.
