Farmer’s death: BJP President cautions against misinformation on such sensitive issue

Punjab Bhartiya Janta Party President Sunil Jakhar expressed extreme grief over the sudden death of a farmer in Rajpura today saying that the BJP stood firmly behind next of the kin of the deceased.

Sunil Jakhar said the tragic incident took place when BJP’s candidate from Patiala Parneet Kaur was campaigning in the constituency.

Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar expressed shock that certain political parties were trying to exploit the situation by misquoting facts and giving a political color to the incident.

State BJP chief said a video that has gone viral showed that the protesting farmer fell on the road, went unconscious, and was rushed to the hospital by farmer’s presence there. He later died.

Jakhar added that while the protest was a democratic right and tool in the hands of people, political parties and farmer organizations should also take into account the safety and health of protestors in such circumstances.

The video that has surfaced showed that the farmer was standing on one side while a group of farmers were raising slogans and sitting in protest in front of a vehicle. The video revealed that the farmer who was standing on one side suddenly fell without any melee.

Sunil Jakhar cautioned political parties against a vitiating atmosphere in the state during the election. He said political parties with a vested interest should refrain from spreading misinformation about sensitive issues that may have far-reaching consequences.
