IIT Ropar sets-up Real Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) Facility

The SYnchrophasor Measurement And Research (SYMAR) Lab of Electrical Engineering Dept., IIT Ropar is now equipped with the state-of-the-art Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) facility, enabling the institute to carry out research in the cutting-edge areas of Smart and Micro Grids. The facility is funded by the DST-FIST grant, which was brought to the department by Dr. Ranjana Sodhi in 2017.

The RTDS facility was inaugurated in SYMAR Lab in J C Bose building by Prof. S K Das, Director, IIT Ropar, Prof. J S Sahambi, Assoc Dean Faculty Affairs, IIT Ropar, Prof. R Garg, Head of Electrical Engg., dept, Dr. Bruce Rigby, RTDS Technologies, Canada, and Dr. Ranjana Sodhi, Project Coordinator and Faculty Incharge SYMAR Lab. The dignitaries accoladed Dr. Ranjana Sodhi for bringing such a competitive and prestegious grant to the department, and remarked that the facility will play an instrumental role in successfully establishing IIT Ropar’s own Campus Microgrid.

The inauguration ceremony was followed by one-day workshop on RTDS Applications to Smart Grids. The one-day workshop was well attended by faculties members, PhD scholars and MTech students from the institutions like IIT Mandi,  NIT Kurukshetra, Chandigarh University, Devi Lal State Institute of Engineering and Technology, etc.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Bruce Rigby from RTDS Technologies, Canada, wherein participants were provided with the basic training on RTDS with hands-on sessions.
