Punjab govt has invited application for the post of Chairman, VAT Tribunal, Punjab. As of now, the post of chairman, member  of VAT Tribunal is vacant.

Recently Punjab govt had appointed Jatinder Singh Aulakh, IPS (Retd) as the chairman, Punjab public service commission and Inderpal Singh as State Chief Information Commissioner.

Now, it seems the government is planning to adjust a retired IAS officer of Punjab. The front runner is former additional chief secretary to chief minister Bhagwant Mann, A Venu Prasad, IAS (Retd.).

He has a vast experience of the state excise and taxation department. He remained state excise and taxation commissioner, financial commissioner taxation during his career. He retired as additional chief secretary (ACS) on July 31,2023.

As per the available information, the applicant shall either be a retired judge of the high court or a retired or serving officer of the rank of chief secretary to the state government or secretary to the government of India.

The chairman of the Tribunal shall hold office for a term of two years and shall not be eligible for re-appointment. The maximum age limit of the chairman is fixed as sixty seven. No person shall be appointed or continue as chairman of the tribunal if he attained the age of sixty seven years.

After adjusting IPS, advocate, Punjab govt seems to adjust IAS as a chairman of a tribunal. The last date to apply is February 26,2024 and the applicant have to submit the application at the office of Under secretary, Govt of Punjab, Department of Excise and Taxation, 2nd Floor, Punjab Civil sect, Sector-1, Chandigarh.

VAT Tribunal constituted under Section 4 of the Punjab Vat Act, 2005, has the powers to hear appeals under the Act. It came into existence after Capt Amarinder Singh government in Punjab introduced Vat from April 1, 2005, following the coming into effect of the Vat regime in the country
