Health and Medical Education & Research Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra on Wednesday directed all four government medical colleges to expedite availability of essential drugs at all the hospitals.

Chairing a high-level meeting here to review various projects, development works and pending demands of four government medical colleges at Patiala, Amritsar, Faridkot and Mohali, the minister directed the institutions to expedite the availability of essential drugs at all hospitals.

Chief minister Bhagwant Mann had made a surprise visit at the Govt Rajindra  hospital on October 19 and had assured the provision of medicines at the earliest.

Due to the shortage of medicines and surgical items, the Government Rajindra Hospital has stopped conducting heart surgeries. No bypass and open-heart surgeries have been performed at the hospital since October 15.

This is the situation in all the other three government colleges at Amritsar, Faridkot, Mohali.
