As per the vision of Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, an Amphi Theatre named ‘Golden Expressions’ has been constructed at the prime location near fountain crossing of the University. This theatre has been constructed with the objective to provide a platform to all the students to express themselves without any formality within the limits of decency.

An amphi theatre is an open-air venue used for entertainment, performances, and sports. The term derives from the ancient Greek word which means “on both sides” or “around” and “place for viewing”

Prof. Sandhu said that University is committed for the overall development of the students and their personality. For this purpose University has already provided state of art infrastructure for their convenience. He said that there are so many students which are not much privileged to get opportunity to perform on big stage and in youth festivals. There is huge talent among our youth and the main objective of this Amphi Theatre is to provide them initial platform to explore their hidden talent and publicaly express themselves. This will also help them to utilize their energy for constructive purposes instead of wasting their time, using mobile and involving themselves in destructive activities including drug abuse.

Every Wednesday, a special programe ‘Mehfil’ is organized by the students of the various departments of the University. This progamme starts around 3 pm and concludes some times around 9 pm as the items presented by the students are so interesting that they bound students till end. Even Vice Chancellor Prof. Sandhu himself is mostly present there to encourage students. During these programmes, students express themselves in the form of poetry, songs, music, dramatic expressions etc. Students also express their grievances against social, political, economic and some time personal problems.

Students expressed their happiness over the establishment of this Amphi Theatre and said that this platform is helpful for them to express themselves openly without any limits. They said that this also provided them a platform to develop their talent and hope fully this will result in some top level actors and performers in various soft skill industries.

This theatre has been recently constructed with the cost of around 5 lac in semi-circular of 50 ft with the capacity of 200 students. This is located in the lap of nature and no tree has been chopped during the construction. Even the greenery has been maintained at the floor of the theatre.
