The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, AIIMS Bathinda organized a Toxicology Symposium in association with UPL India Limited on 10thAugust 2023 in Auditorium, AIIMS Bathinda to highlight the Occupational Health & Safety in Agricultural and need for Skill Development.

The Advisor of the Skills Development, Ministry of Government of India, Dr. Sandeep Kaura, and Presidentof Global Corporate Industry Affairs, UPL India Ltd. Shri Sagar Kaushik inaugurated the symposium. The Organizing Chairman Dr. Akhilesh Pathak and Medical superintendent Dr. Rajiv Kumar addressed the gathering and explain the importance of this symposium. The symposium was attended by around 250 doctors and medical students from Punjab and by forensic experts from all over India.

In this conference, UPL president Mr. Sagar Kaushik, Director Professor Dr. Salini Chawla, Clinical Toxicologist Dr. Tejas Prajapati, and Dr. Govind Sawant explained the importance of Occupational Health & Safety in Agriculture, and Dr. Sandeep Kaura explained the need of skills development for the safety of our farmers.

Dean Dr. Akhilesh Pathak explained the need for trained and skilled paramedical staff for the management of poisoning cases in emergency and invited UPL and National Skills Development Corporation India to establish a center for training of health care workers in AIIMS Bathinda, which can be helpful in creating trained and skilled paramedial staff to cater the global demand of such workforce. Skilled technicians can be very helpfulto save the life of the patients who are exposed to pesticides and other chemicals in this Malwa region of India.

AIIMS Bathinda Forensic Medicine and Toxicology department organised Toxicology Symposium . The team of expert doctors from AIIMS Bathinda did a role play and created a real scenario on the stage to explain how cases of poisoning are managed in an emergency. Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. Jyoti Barwa, Dr. Rattan Singh, Dr. Kamlakant, Dr. Sahil and Dr. Chandrakala explained the importance of medicolegal duties to be performed in such cases. Dr. Anju Grewal and Team anesthesia explained how the initial and life-saving management is to be done in an emergencyand Dr. Preeti Singh Dhoat and team explained the management of snake bite cases in an emergency by creating a real scenario on the stage. The role plays and efforts of the Forensic Medicine Department to organize such a wonderful symposium were appreciated by all delegates and experts all over India.
