Ajayvir Singh Lalpura’s Complaint against Illegal Mining Leads to Government Action

Bahadurjeet Singh /Rupnagar, March 26,2025

BJP Rupnagar District President Ajayvir Singh Lalpura’s persistent fight against alleged illegal mining has led to action by the Punjab government after the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) took note of his complaint. Following a letter from the PMO dated March 3, 2025 (Ref: PMOPG/D/2025/0041169) to the Chief Secretary of Punjab, the Mines and Geology Department has appointed officer Tushar Goel to investigate the matter.

Lalpura, who has been vocal against illegal sand mining, went live on social media to discuss the issue with the appointed officer. He urged a thorough investigation, not only into current illegal mining activities but also into previous complaints that had been ignored. He highlighted how overloaded tipper trucks operate round the clock, yet the government’s revenue from mining remains minimal.

Expressing his commitment, Lalpura declared, “This is my land, my district. I will not let it fall victim to illegal mining. If the administration fails to act, I will take to the streets.” He criticized both past and present governments for turning a blind eye to this rampant issue, accusing political leaders of allowing the loot of Rupnagar’s natural resources.

In February, Lalpura had exposed illegal sand mining near Agampur Bridge through a Facebook Live session, showing how mafia groups were extracting sand unlawfully while authorities remained inactive. He has now urged citizens to send real-time GPS-tagged videos of illegal mining or unregistered tipper trucks to his number (98075-88075) so immediate action can be taken.
