Akali Dal lays out its cards for Presidential candidate elections

Akali Dal, under the command of its president Sukhbir Singh Badal has decided to support for the NDA Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu.
It’s almost 21 months after breaking its alliance with the BJP, Shiromani Akali Dal today announced its support for the NDA Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu.
The decades-old alliance between the BJP and SAD broke down due to the three farm laws which were later rolled back by the Modi government. SDA leader and Badal’s wife Harsimrat Kaur also resigned from the Union Cabinet to support the farmers.
Akali Dal lays out its cards for Presidential candidate elections. In a tweet, Sukhbir Badal announces “ Shiromani Akali Dal has accepted the appeal of Ms Draupadi Murmu for support in the forthcoming presidential poll as she symbolizes the cause of minorities, tribals, the exploited and backward classes as well as the dignity of women. She has emerged as a symbol of the poor.’
“Despite our differences with BJP over farm laws, issue of release of imprisoned Sikhs, and others, we have decided to back their candidate,” said party president Sukhbir Badal after the party’s core committee meeting in Chandigarh.
Badal said BJP chief JP Nadda had called him to ask for support in the upcoming Presidential elections. “Madam (Droupadi Murmu) also called me and asked for support. Considering Madam’s request, we have decided that we will do all we can to try to make her the country’s President,” he said.
Akali dal has 2 lok sabha MPS and 3 MLAs in Punjab assembly. They all will vote for NDA Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu.
“Supporting BJP in Presidential elections, will pave way for Shiromani Akali Dal to have official alliance with them” said Gurjit Singh.
